Suwannee River Partnership

Water...For People, For Life

Mission Statement

The Partnership's mission is to determine the sources of nutrient loads to the Suwannee and Santa Fe river basins, and to work with local land users to minimize future nutrient loading through voluntary, incentive-based programs.

The Partnership initially focused on the Suwannee River Basin. The program's success led to expansion into the Santa Fe River Basin and the rest of the Suwannee River Water Management area in 2003.

Initially, technical committees developed specific plans to reduce nutrient loading to the water resources of the Suwannee River basin through better management of fertilizers, animal waste and human waste; monitoring; and education and outreach.

The group is focusing on finding the most economical and technologically feasible management techniques (best management practices, or BMPs) available to help farmers and other land users satisfy regulatory requirements for protecting public health and the environment. Through education and outreach programs, the group continues to increase public awareness of the issues, and encourage citizen and community participation in working together to find solutions.
