Programs
- BMP
- Best Management Practices (BMP) description.
- Cost Share
- Partnership agencies provide a variety of cost share programs to help offset cost that farmers must undertake when using recommended Best Management Practices.
- Education
- Education description.
- Research
- A key component of The Partnership's strategy to protect the water resources of the basin is to verify BMPs are effective in reducing nitrogen that is lost to the environment. The University of Florida leads the effort to test BMPs on the Live Oak research center and on farms.
- CARES
- The Florida Farm Bureau and the Suwannee River Partnership created the County Alliance for Responsible Environmental Stewardship (CARES) to bring agricultural associations, public agencies and institutions, and farmers together to increase environmental awareness on farms. It recognizes farmers that implement measures to help protect and save water.
- TMDLs
- A Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) is the maximum amount of a given pollutant that a water body can absorb and still maintain its designated uses (e.g., drinking water, fishing, swimming, shellfish harvesting). One water body may have several TMDLs, one for each targeted pollutant. Some pollutants for which TMDLs have been set include: total phosphorus, total nitrogen, iron, etc.)
- Florida Yards and Neighbors
- The Florida Yards & Neighborhoods Program was developed to address serious problems of pollution and disappearing habitats by enlisting homeowners in the battle to save our natural environment. This program provides special educational and outreach activities directed at the community to help residents reduce pollution and enhance their environment by improving home and landscape management.
